Ashtyn’s Dreaming About Food

Friday  afternoon I got back from the PICU. I was starving but the doctors said that it would be best not to eat or drink for about a week. I was very upset and I thought I couldn’t handle not eating for that long. I picked up my phone and texted my Uncle Jared and asked him to give me a priesthood blessing. Jared came with my Grandma and Grandpa Hosenfeld. They gave me a blessing. He blessed me that with my faith I would be able to find ways to distract and control my hunger. Shortly after my stomach started to feel less hungry.  I have had a lot of stomach cramps but my hunger has been manageable. I know I can handle not eating because I got a blessing and prayers are being said for me.

Everyday I know I am closer to going home so it’s easier to be here. It’s fine being in the hospital. I’m getting used to it and I know I’m getting better. My mom keeps me busy. She talks to me and watches movies with me. My least favorite part is being away from family. Texting family members helps. It’s also hard being trapped in a room. My favorite thing about being in the hospital is being with my mom. I also like the staff. They are really nice. I like watching The Cosby Show. It’s funny. I also like watching Disney movies.

I’m not really hungry right now. I feel like something little, like a fruit snack, but not anything big. I definitely don’t think I will be able to eat for at least four more days. When I do get to eat again, these are the things I am looking forward to: Olive Garden, Arby’s, Little Caesars, KFC, In and Out, Cafe Rio, Rubio’s, Lone Star, Taco Time, Chilies, Sbarros, Pizza Hut, Red Mango, Quiznos subs, Wendy’s, Noodles and Company, Iceberg, Panda Express, and the Lion House. Grandpa Hosenfeld’s spaghetti and meatballs, Grandma Hosenfeld’s guacamole, orange chicken, and angel hair pasta. Grandma Poulsen’s macaroni salad and sloppy joes.

I’m grateful that being in the hospital is easier than it used to be. It’s going to be a hard year, but that’s ok.

  3. How are you going to be able to get the nutrition you need if you can’t eat? Anyway hang in there and let God work his magic. ( okay it’s not magic but it seems like it to us )

      • Suzanne you are such a thoughtful person. I know how troubling this is. Everyday I start and end everyday with a prayer for Ashtyn. There are things you have asked us to pray for, for her. I’m happy she doesn’t have undiferentiated leukemia anymore and I’m happy she got a CT scan and they found the colitis so she can get treatment for it. One question I have for Ashton though. If you were invited to have a wish from the Make A Wish Foundation what would your wish be? I know this is a pretty hard question to answer cause there are a billon things out there you probaly want to do. But I really want to hear what your wish would be. Love you!!

  4. If Ashtyn made a wish through Make A WIsh Foundation, she would wish to go to the Disney resort called Aulani in Hawaii 🙂

      You do know that I have been a wish granter for Make-A-Wish for several years and that Rachel and I can hardly wait to grant Ashtyn the biggest, most wonderful wish she can imagine…magic,hope & love included! I’ve been with MAW since Mark was a wish kid.It’s so fun.

  5. Yeah Ashtyn! I think its amazing that you can go soooo many days without food! Both me and my family members, (Grandma, all 10 of my cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and my parents) have been watching your blog everyday ever sense I told them about it. My Grandma H. has put you on the prayer role, and is hoping that God will answer our prayers for you! And guess what… with your whole army praying IT WORKED!!! I can’t imagine what this feels like to you and Suzann to have your cancer gone! I mean like, its a relief to your whole army, but its probably more then just a relief to you and your family!

    I have a couple questions to ask… Well, you obviously can’t go without water for a week or else you would be VERY dehydrated so, can you drink anything besides water? Also, how are you getting all the the iron and other things you need from food if you cant eat anything?

    I’m sill praying for you Ashtyn! I love and miss you! Get well soon!!!!! 😉

    • Hi Lexi,
      Ashtyn did not drink water for four days. She started to drink a little today. The doctors give her fluids through an IV she has. The IV fluids keeps her hydrated. In the IV fluids they also add all the nutrience she needs such as sugar, fats, vitamins, and minerals.

  6. Please tell Ashtyn that I am really proud of her and I am looking forward to that day when I see her again! I miss her so much and hope that she is doing okay. I can’t stop thinking about you Ashtyn!❤
